RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) - New townhomes are now for sale in Racine’s Lincoln-King neighborhood, offering qualified buyers a chance to purchase a home as part of a wider effort to rebuild the area.
The City of Racine Community Development Authority is taking applications through Sept. 30 for the Townhomes at Lincoln-King. The homes have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a two-and-a-half-car garage and major appliances.
The development includes 33 owner-occupied townhomes in eight buildings. Some project descriptions also include two detached homes, bringing the total to about 35 units.
City officials say the homes are intended to help address the need for affordable homeownership, especially for households earning less than $50,000 a year. Buyers must meet income requirements and live in the home they purchase. Eligible buyers may receive up to $10,000 in down-payment help from the city.
The townhomes sit near the future Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and health clinic campus and is part of a larger Lincoln-King redevelopment plan. That includes street, sidewalk, lighting and utility upgrades. The broader effort also includes work on existing homes, blight removal and public-space improvements.
The overall neighborhood investment is expected to total nearly $100 million or more. City leaders say the goal is to create more stable housing, help current residents build wealth and bring new services to an area that has faced years of underinvestment.
