Governor Tony Evers has officially proclaimed October as FAFSA Filing Month across Wisconsin. Announced jointly by the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions and the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board, this initiative aims to encourage students and families throughout the state to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid for the upcoming 2027-28 academic year as early as possible.

Submitting the FAFSA is a critical initial step for securing postsecondary financial assistance. The form evaluates eligibility for various federal, state, and institutional financial aid resources, including need-based grants, scholarships, work-study options, and federal loans. Additionally, many private scholarship organizations rely on FAFSA completion when making award decisions.

To assist families through the application process, College Goal Wisconsin is organizing a series of free virtual and in-person completion events during October. State leaders, including DFI Secretary Wendy K. Baumann and HEAB Executive Secretary Tammie DeVooght Blaney, strongly advise applying early to meet deadlines and gain a clear understanding of available financial support for higher education.
