Couderay man arrested after shots fired at LCO tribal police officer near Sevenwinds Casino
Police say multiple shots were fired at a tribal officer during a traffic stop near Sevenwinds Casino, striking and damaging the officer's squad car.
A Couderay man was arrested after police say he fired multiple shots at a Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police officer during a traffic stop near Sevenwinds Casino last week.
According to a press release issued Tuesday by the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department, the incident happened around 9:43 p.m. Thursday, October 9, when an officer responded to a driving complaint in the area of County Highway B.
Police say the officer attempted to stop a vehicle, which pulled into the Sevenwinds Casino parking lot. During the stop, an individual got out of the vehicle and fired multiple shots at the officer, striking and damaging the officer's squad car.
A second person left the vehicle and entered the casino, where police later located him sitting at the bar. He was detained by law enforcement.
Following the shooting, police pursued the suspect's vehicle until it crashed. The suspect was later located inside the vehicle and taken into custody. Medical personnel provided assistance, and he was airlifted for further treatment.
Police identified the suspect as 37-year-old Andrew J. White of Couderay.
According to the release, White was arrested for first-degree attempted homicide, first-degree reckless endangerment, felon in possession of a firearm, intentionally endangering safety, fleeing or eluding an officer and a probation violation.
Neither the officer nor any members of the public were injured during the shooting.
Because a Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police officer was involved, the case was turned over to the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office for investigation.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information is asked to contact the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office.
