States asked to review their current wolf management rules
To help American ranchers protect their livestock from wolf attacks, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is asking states to review their current wolf management rules. Under a new executive order, federal officials are working to give farmers and ranchers more tools to defend their herds, including legal removal of problem wolves where permitted.
The USDA is also increasing financial aid to cover the full market value of animals lost to predators through the Livestock Indemnity Program. Ranchers dealing with wolf losses are encouraged to document any attacks and contact local farm agencies for support and financial compensation.
