Leaders representing Wisconsin's 16 technical colleges recently gathered at the WTCS Forecasting Summit to address pressing economic and educational challenges. Facing a persistent state workforce shortage of roughly 90,000 workers annually, college leaders focused on strategic adaptations to maintain competitive higher education pathways and support local employers.
Serving nearly 300,000 students each year, the system offers targeted training in essential fields such as healthcare, advanced manufacturing, information technology, and skilled trades. To remain responsive amid stagnant state funding and rising inflation, technical colleges are implementing cost-saving measures, modernizing curriculum through competency-based models, and expanding dual-enrollment access for high school students across the state.
