The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Dominance Financing finalized a $5.1 billion loan package for Alliant Energy to enhance grid reliability and expand power generation across Iowa and Wisconsin. The project is expected to lower electricity costs, projecting to deliver over $1 billion in savings to families and businesses while providing a major boost to new or upgraded generation capacity.
The funded projects focus on supporting new natural gas-fired power plants, energy storage systems, and upgrades to existing facilities. Together, these infrastructure updates will generate enough electricity to power roughly 2 million homes and create hundreds of construction jobs across the region.
In conjunction with the financial announcement, U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright traveled to Wisconsin to host a press conference at a natural gas facility in Beloit. Secretary Wright also scheduled a visit to the John P. Madgett coal-fired power plant in Alma for a roundtable discussion.
