Longtime South Carolina Congressman and kingmaker in the Democratic Party, Jim Clyburn, will travel to Wisconsin and campaign with David Crowley this weekend.

Clyburn is expected to launch canvasses and host get out the vote events with the Democratic nominee for Wisconsin governor on Saturday, Oct. 31, including stops in Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha.

No other details were immediately available.

The Congressional Black Caucus PAC endorsed Crowley in the primary against democratic socialist Francesca Hong, and now a prominent leader of the historic caucus will attempt to help push Crowley over the finish line in the final days of the election.

Clyburn, 86, is a veteran lawmaker, serving in various senior House leadership roles, and is a nationally recognized voting rights and civil rights leader.

His influence has in-part led to Black voters being the strongest voting bloc for Democratic politicians. In the past, his indifference towards more progressive or leftist candidates caused rifts on the political Left.

The first-in-the-nation Democratic primary state for the 2028 presidential election is now South Carolina, Clyburn’s home state, where southern Black voters will set the tone early in the race.

But first, the midterms are what’s ahead of us. Crowley is seeking to become the first Black governor in Wisconsin history — a position only three Black people have ever held in U.S. history.

Early voting is underway in Wisconsin and Election Day is Nov. 3.
