The Vernon County Sheriff's Office concludes a busy week
The Vernon County Sheriff's Office engaged in a variety of law enforcement and community service activities for the week ending October 24. Sheriff Roy Torgerson released an overview highlighting ongoing operations, emergency responses, and key incidents handled by deputies throughout the county.
Deputies responded to multiple traffic incidents and impaired driving offenses across several municipalities. Notable incidents included a two-vehicle collision on County Road K caused by improper lane usage, as well as separate arrests for operating under the influence in the Town of Hamburg and along State Highway 35 in Bergen. A traffic stop on US Highway 14 near the county line resulted in the apprehension of both the driver and a passenger wanted on multiple outstanding domestic abuse and drug charges.
Community safety calls and property crime investigations also comprised a significant portion of the weekly report. In La Farge, law enforcement assisted after a young child wandered out of a daycare facility uninjured. Deputies investigated property crimes including stolen hunting boats in Bergen, criminal damage to a vehicle in Hillsboro, shoplifting incidents in Readstown, and a burglary involving a missing safe on Prestegard Road in Kickapoo. Additionally, authorities initiated investigations into suspected financial exploitation of elderly residents in Viroqua and followed up on well-being concerns in Ontario.
