With Halloween around the corner, communities across the area are preparing for a full schedule of festive gatherings, family-friendly events, and traditional trick-or-treating. Residents of all ages will find plenty of opportunities to show off their favorite costumes, enjoy sweet treats, and celebrate the holiday safely throughout the weekend.

Festivities kick off tonight with multiple local activities. The Richland Center Parks and Recreation department is hosting a Monster Mash Kids' Night Out from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Richland Center Community Center. Open to children ages 3 to 14, the event costs $15 per child and features gym games, crafts, a costume contest, a dance party, and snacks provided by the Richland Center Lions Club. Online registration is available via richlandcenter.activityreg.com.

Movie enthusiasts ages 14 and older can head to the Richland Center City Auditorium at 6:00 PM for a free screening of the classic 1922 silent vampire film Nosferatu, sponsored by Neighborhood Housing Services. Attendees in costume can register for a contest starting at 6:15 PM prior to the show.

The excitement continues on Saturday with daytime and evening trick-or-treating gatherings. The 40 et 8 Locale 1268 will host the Veterans Trick or Treat from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at American Legion Post 13 in Richland Center, featuring goodies, toys, school supplies, local emergency services, and mini donkeys Miss Purdy and Nestor. From 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, Pine Valley Community Village will present its Safe Trick or Treat, culminating in a 3:00 PM costume contest. Later in the afternoon, residents of Richland Hills Apartments welcome children to Get Treats at Richland Hills in the ground floor commons from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, while the Richland Center Free Methodist Church hosts its annual Trunk or Treat from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM, serving free hot chocolate and s’mores alongside candy.

Official designated trick-or-treating hours vary across area towns, on Saturday, trick-or-treaters head out from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Dodgeville, Gays Mills, and Spring Green; from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM in Richland Center; from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM in Boscobel; and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Avoca and Muscoda. On Sunday, November 1, Highland will host its trick-or-treat hours from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Motorists are urged to exercise extra caution on area roads as children take to the streets for a ghoulishly good time.
