Butternut Girls Volleyball Battles Back to Finish Prentice Tournament With Three Straight Wins
The Butternut Lady Midgets girls volleyball team showed plenty of determination Saturday, overcoming a difficult start at the Prentice tournament to finish the day with three consecutive victories.
Butternut opened the tournament against Gilman and dropped both sets, 25-8 and 25-8. Alli Lueloff, Gianna Nahring and Brooklynn Treml each recorded a kill, while Nahring added a service ace. Nahring and Lindsay Kennedy led the team defensively with five digs apiece.
The Lady Midgets faced the host Prentice team in their second match and continued to battle despite falling 25-22 and 25-18. Lueloff led Butternut with seven kills, while Lizzie Pritzl, Nahring and Bailey Pritzl each added three. Lueloff, Nahring, Olivia and Bailey Pritzl each recorded three digs.
Butternut then found its rhythm in the third match, defeating Flambeau in two close sets, 25-20 and 25-23.
Nahring led the Lady Midgets with five kills. Pritzl and Treml each recorded two service aces, while Lueloff paced the defense with eight digs. Nahring had seven digs, Pritzl six and Kennedy five. Lueloff and Treml each contributed a solo block.
The Lady Midgets carried that momentum into their fourth match, sweeping Cornell, 25-12 and 25-20.
Lueloff, Nahring, Pritzl and Bailey Pritzl each recorded three kills. Bailey Pritzl led Butternut with five aces, while Lueloff added four. Nahring finished with a team-high five digs, and both Lueloff and Nahring contributed solo blocks.
Butternut saved another strong performance for the final match of the day, sweeping Mercer, 25-11 and 25-18.
Nahring led the offense with six kills and also recorded six digs and two solo blocks. Pritzl and Bailey Pritzl each had two aces, while Lueloff and Treml each added a solo block. Treml and Bailey Pritzl also contributed assists.
After losing its first four sets of the day, Butternut responded by winning six consecutive sets to close the tournament.
The turnaround highlighted the Lady Midgets' resilience and ability to regroup. Rather than allowing the difficult start to dictate the rest of the tournament, Butternut battled back, found its rhythm and finished the day with three straight victories.
